06.06.08 Military Promotion Ceremony

Chris had a lovely Promotion Ceremony this morning. He was promoted from the rank of Ensign to the rank of Lieutenant, a third level Officer in the US Navy. Each division of the military stood separately and recited their Oath of Office. When the Army stood, the HPSP Military Coordinator had them raise their right hands and said, "Repeat after me..." whereupon he read the entire Oath, not remembering them to leave room for them to repeat the Oath after himself. Someone else had to come up and help them repeat the Oath after he sheepishly realized what he'd done. He told them to keep their hands up and they went through the entire thing again. Grant was a good boy, but he was getting very antzy towards the end. He had stood in the back with my dad for much of the ceremony. When they came back, Grant was crawling all over me, pulling my hair out of my lovely hair-do, and wallering all over the pews. He got this great idea in his head to start blowing raspberries on my arm, so I spent much of the last 10 minutes trying to keep Grant from making a terribly loud blowing noise on my arm. My sister was sitting behind me and had a hard time not getting the giggles. Chris asked Grandpa and his father to "pin" him, or put the new shoulder boards on him. It was so neat to watch them honor him with his new devices. All in all, they put together a wonderful ceremony. And now Chris is LT Christopher R. Worley...but he's technically still a medical student. Oh, for the things to come in the next couple of days! Waiting to sign his Oath of Office Signing his life away to the US Navy Admiring his new rank as LT Christopher Worley The Admiral with Chris The Admiral asked to take a picture with Grant, the "Little Sailor." We asked Grant to salute, and the Admiral saluted right back. Captain Troy Akers, Captain Sterling Brodniak and Lieutenant Christopher Worley The Akers and Worleys
