August 6, 2008 - Art Walk

I found out that downtown there is an art walk on the first Wednesday of every month. We invited the other interns/families to join us as we explored this event downtown, and had the Cabreras and Waltons join us. They are both becoming very good friends of ours. We enjoy their company immensely. So we went downtown and had a wonderful time! The first artist we saw has not had use of his hands or feet since birth, and so he uses a paint brush with his lips and paints incredible landscapes. We were very impressed. He was so personable, and very funny, too. Hemming Plaza had various musicians playing, as well as a drum circle where they were practicing Brazilian martial arts. It was so interesting. There was also a lady demonstrating hoola-hooping. It felt a little "hippy-ish," but it was a fun cultural experience just the same. :-) We only scratched the surface of the various venues displaying art, but we had a great time, anyway. So if you're ever in town for the first Wednesday of the month, make your way to 100 N Laura Street where you'll find a map of the places you can check out local artists that evening! It's well worth the trip! We'll definitely be making our way downtown for the art walk whenever we can.
